In a significant step towards sustainable public transport, the Latrobe Valley has introduced regional Victoria’s first electric bus, thanks to the Andrews Labor Government’s $20 million Zero Emissions Bus (ZEB) Trial. Latrobe Valley Bus Lines (LVBL) is leading this initiative with the new battery electric bus stationed at their Traralgon depot, supported by a charging station installed by Mondo.
This trial involves six operators across Victoria, deploying 52 zero-emission buses over three years to gather data on performance, energy needs, and financial viability. Most of these buses will be manufactured at Volgren’s Dandenong South facility, supporting local jobs and contributing to the state’s goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2045.
Minister for Public Transport, Ben Carroll, highlighted the importance of tackling emissions to meet Victoria’s environmental commitments. Harriet Shing, Member for Eastern Victoria Region, emphasized the benefits of quieter and cleaner public transport for the region.
